Derby Telegraph Business Awards 2018
After the success of the 2017 event the evening had much to stand up to, but it didn’t disappoint. The evening was bigger and better than ever and saw the best businesses from across the region join together for a glamorous night to celebrate their achievements from the past 12 months.
15 highly coveted awards were presented on the night, featuring three new categories for 2018, including the Sustainability Award, Family Business of the Year, and Apprentice Employer of the Year.
Businesses both new and longstanding, from a wide range of sectors and sizes, were rewarded at the ceremony, with Project Better Energy winning the highly contested Company of the Year title.
The Event Night
Since its inauguration in 2015, the evening has been hosted at The Roundhouse at Derby College, and 2018 was no different. Members of Derbyshire’s business community flocked to the stunning venue on the Derby College campus which lies in the heart of Derby’s Pride Park, which is home to many of Derby’s best businesses, and the famous Derby County Football Club. Wednesday’s ceremony began with the popping of Champagne for the reception which was sponsored by Marketing Derby. Guests were then welcomed by Derby Telegraph Editor, Steve Hall who boasted Derby’s business successes from 2017. Overseeing the event proceedings were event hosts award-winning comedian and television presenter, Mark Dolan, and Olympic Badminton athlete, Gail Emms MBE. During the event, more than 500 guests were wined, dined and entertained by the astonishing tricks performed by magician Jamie Raven.
In 2015 Magician Jamie Raven burst onto the scene, amazing audiences across the UK through their television screens after performing on the infamous Britain’s Got Talent stage. His performance on the show even moved the notorious Simon Cowell to exclaim, ‘I now finally believe in magic!’ quite the compliment! Jamie made it to the final, eventually claiming the runner-up prize, after a series of incredible performances.
Jamie has been perfecting his craft for the past 13 years impressing audiences with his skills across the world, and Britain’s Got Talent gave him the chance to widen that audience, his online videos from Britain’s Got Talent have been seen over 400 million times making him one of the most viewed magicians in the world today.
After his stint on Britain’s Got Talent, Jamie headlined ‘The Illusionists’ at the Shaftesbury Theatre, which broke the box office record for the most successful magic show in the history of London’s West End. In Autumn 2018 Jamie will be taking his own ‘Making Magic’ show on tour.
Other highlights of Jamie’s career include his BBC Sport series, the ‘Magic of the FA Cup’ and performing at the premiere of the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Now You See Me 2’. He now performs regularly at events and conferences, to book Jamie contact Jack Hayes at 0207 1010 553.
With hundreds of people in attendance on Wednesday, the Derby Telegraph Business Awards presented a fantastic opportunity to raise valuable funds for the chosen charity, Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. Guests partook in a game of Stand Up Bingo to win a night in a superior suite and spa treatment at the Belfry Hotel and Resort, a truly fantastic prize.
The funds raised will support the local East Midlands Charity, who work tirelessly to care for the lives of young people who are suffering from life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.
With the Derby Telegraph Business Awards now complete, the awards team are preparing for the Toast of Surrey Business Awards. Held at the incredible Mercedes Benz World, on the 27th June, the event is due to be a sell-out, acknowledging business successes in Surrey.
